‘With my spyglass I can observe a woman who is reading on a terrace in the valley,’ I told her. ‘I wonder if the books she reads are calming or upsetting.’
‘How does the woman seem to you? Calm or upset?’
‘Then she reads upsetting books.’

“Mr. applies and alienates the pictorial idiom of the manga in his large-format paintings, working on his very own concept of the flat painting while at the same time creating pictorial space through his choice of unusual perspectives.”
Written by Margrit Brehm and found in the book, The Japanese Experience Inevitable
“We Have To Keep Going” by Jing Wei. My favorite of the pieces from Brooklyn BETA spaces. Like a little miniature dream. (seen @ Fire Proof Bar/Cafe)
a painting by Jon Avelluto. Now, I didn’t really get this series until someone explained it to me. I had assumed they were sketches of a deconstructed piece of loose leaf paper (or something). But really, the pieces are layers and layers of acrylic paint mounted on a glass pane. High concept fun!
seen @ Brooklyn BETA spaces.
(Jon Avelluto happens to also be an extremely nice guy.)
